Online Presence: Acting or Real Life

This week I have began to think about the way that I present myself online.  I think one way to better understand how one can put out a different persona out online is to see a fairly concrete example.

Mike Tornabene and Gian Hunjan work as a comedy team to create the Bro Science Life videos on YouTube.  In these videos, Mike plays a gym rat named Dom Mazzetti, who expresses his opinions about fitness and a few other topics in the least politically correct way possible.  Mike plays this role so well that many people were surprised that Dom does not actually exist in real life as seen in the comments of this short documentary about the comedy team.  I personally was surprised by this because Mike and Gian have done such a fantastic job creating this character.

Take a look at a few of the Bro Science Life videos and then take a look at the short to get a glimpse of who the creators really are.  Also think about the way that you filter your content and persona you present online.

  1. Wow, this was shocking that they put so much effort into creating the character that it was like he was the real person. It is scary to see that it is actually so easy to create a fake persona. I mean it is really cool and interesting, but I can’t envision putting that much effort into anything I put online.
